I really like the perspective of this shot. The slightly skew horizon in combination with the bent backs of the ladies gives me a giddy feeling which perfectly fits the action of bending for an old lady. The opposed backs and the horizon form a great geometry.
It is a fun shot because they happen to do a similar pose at the same time. A small dog involved with an old lady adds comedic elements just on its own.
Therefore I give you the full rating because this picture combines situational humour, an eye for it, lucky incidents and the coincidence of taking a picture in the right moment.
Ok someone called me a idiot earlier on I am not saying he/she (o.o) didnt deserve a DD for this (Frankly I believe alot of people dont deserve a DD) art is a relative term after all. my tastes are my own. I dont generally like photography but every blue moon one will catch my eye. Would really appreciate it if one could express their opinion and not have their intelligence insulted.
Thank you so much. Well eventually I use to work with colour shots more than the average street photographer Just had a brief look into your gallery and found it great. I will have a closer look later this morning.
The image captures a moment of symmetry, similarity, equality from two different women, with different social status and different interests according to it. The 'tilted horizon' only enhances the strange pose, which to me recalls a move of a group dance. The title points to the dog because it is a detail that could escape to all those people that have an attention span of 1 second to get a photo...It's street photography for you, dudes, capturing a moment that reflects, represents or question the contemporary society. A candid, un-staged, unplanned moment that you see, recognize and capture in a fraction of second. It requires eye and timing and often high ISO, yeah if you want something in focus. Dear Ola, if the haters' comments bother you, just hide them or disable the comments on the image. Though if you look closely you can see that who didn't get the image don't have the slightest idea of what street photography is, means, requires. So I would say, don't give a fuck
Being a media professional I'm used to criticism and actually I like the idea of sometimes being controversial My nick "truerebellion" is not chosen without reason
Must say I feel kind of amused reading all these ignorant comments obviously written by people to whom a good photo consists of a landscape with strict horizon being edited in PS for 5 hours or something
This DD and all the comments really made my day and the traffic to my pages have increased more than I could ever imagine.
remember, a DD is not an award for fine art pieces, it was created as a way to expose lesser-known artists to the deviantArt audience. pieces were chosen by moderators depending how they individually thought if it should get more attention.
every time a piece that doesn't show an obvious amount of technology and/or effort is given a DD, people say it was undeserving. the 'daily deviation' feature is not much more than a dashboard or a newsfeed, broadcasting artists you may not have heard of. the 'feature' box would contain a few words on why it was chosen, NOT why it was a great piece of art.
it is up to the audience to say if it's good or not, but when your argument is fueled by its DD, it becomes obsolete because a DD means very little in terms of 'artistic quality.' a DD simply says that both the suggester and the moderator felt this artist deserved a bit more attention. you not thinking it deserves a DD means you don't think this artist deserves an extended audience.
this is certainly a very lucky catch! two women, each bent similarly low on their objective, SO CLOSE to each other but will never meet again.
i also get the feeling, as a young girl, that this is also a world of the elderly as well. i see not a single person under the age of 50 here. the watch woman is wearing a vibrant, young shade of puce with dyed blond hair, while the dog woman is caring for a young, cute puppy.
different ways of feeling younger, perhaps that is what sets them apart?
You know at first I was like, "I don't get why this has a DD." Then after reading your comment and everyone else's, it made sense. Two people closing observing what they each love at the same time, but have no idea of it. Really interesting. Thanks for opening my eye to that.
Wait, I do understand now.... It takes a moment of observation until you realize how truly amazing this is. If you really look at the picture, it's as if the photo is divided into two separate worlds. One (on the right side) is more of a chic and glamorous world, with a colorful atmosphere and shiny, expensive-looking objects. The other (on the left side) is more of a plain, dull-colored world but not boring. This photo is very intriguing... Amazing work.
I'll admit at first glance I didn't see anything special about it, but then it started to sink in and I think it's a marvelous shot! It's like two different worlds split right down the middle, and even though they are in the same area its like the atmosphere bends around their preferences. I especially love the contrast between the bright gold and expensive merchandise on the right verses the people and trees on the left; it says a lot about humanity in a general and broad sense. It's amazing you got so much in a single moment, in a single shot. Well done!
DD's aren't only about one photo, it's just one photo picked up from outstanding gallery. And *truerebellion has got one lovely gallery you should check out And if you still dislike this being a DD, check out this [link]
